6000+ emails download with each Send/Receive activation

Using Outlook 2003 with POP3 linked to Yahoo mail. Recently, Outlook has
been prone to downloading every email I have on the Yahoo server each time
Send/Receive is activated, whether manually or with scheduled downloads.

I've installed all Office and Outlook updates. Deleted and reinstated my
email account details. Checked for anti-virus updates (Symantec) and ran
Stinger (McAfee) anti-virus scanner -- nothing unusual there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

how often are you doing send and receives? is outlook able to complete the
process before the next send and receive? the messages marked as downloaded
are written to a hidden file after outlook is finished and if anything
messes it up, it's not written. This file is stored in the pst and if you
move it between machines it is likely to get damaged, resulting in outlook
downloading over and over...

Thank you, Diane, for your reply.

I did allow once for every email to be downloaded once more into Outlook,
which took about 7 hours. But once the process repeated itself with each
Send/Receive episode, I discontinued the scheduled Send/Receive action which
I had time to take place every 5 minutes.

The hidden file you refer to in pst has not been moved. All actions to date
have occurred on the same machine.

I appreciate your assistance with this matter, as the malfunction has been
quite disruptive and IT support staff are baffled.
