550 - Relaying Issues.

Good morning, everyone.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that is running WinXP SP2 as it's operating
system and Outlook 2002, SP1 as its Exchange client.

I have an Exchange server on the LAN, which Outlook is configured to use, as
well as a POP3 account that I use to get my mail from the Exchange server
when I'm on the road.

Lately, for some unknown reason, I've been unable to send email out from my
account (the Exchange account, specifically) to anyone who's not on the
Exchange server that I'm connected to. The message that I get is one that
mentions 550, relaying prohibited by Administrator. I know that this account
has had no changes to it during the period that this problem cropped up, so
I'm pretty sure it's an Outlook issue.

My question is, what settings could precipitate the Exchange account's
inability to relay email for me, and how do I fix it? I will monitor this
thread for a bit and post any follow-up information immediately.

For the record, incoming email is working just fine, and I'm sure this isn't
an ISP or Exchange issue because other people are using this exact same
Exchange server to relay mail.

You probably need to authenticate to your outgoing server. On the dialog
for your POP account, click "More Settings...", then go to the "Outgoing
server" tab.
