550 directory

When I try to update changes only, or sync my local PC with remote web site
it comes up with errormessage: 550 directory not found.

Used to work fine, just suddenly started
Any ideas? I can still over write all pages to remote web site, but this
takes ages and dosn't cure the above problem

Any help greatfully appreciated, in plain english please, I'm not a programmer
