5300 USB Visioneer Scanner

I would like to use a Visioneer 5300 USB scanner on XP. I've tried lots of
things, and I still can't get it to work. It keeps wanting to install the
drivers for the parallel version. The name says 5300 USB, but when you go
to install it, it only gives you the options of COM1 or Parallel. When I
plug in the scanner into the computer, it says that it's an unknown USB
device. Is there anything I can do to get it to work? I managed to get an
old Compaq IJ200 printer to work on XP, (by making it think that it was the
Lexmark that is similar to it) but I'm having a very difficult time getting
this scanner to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can try the Windows 2000 drivers, and they might work. But, Visioneer
has orphaned the 5300 when it comes to Windows XP. Visioneer has stated
that they will not support the 5300 USB for Windows XP. The Windows 2000
drivers worked for the 7600 USB using Windows XP, so maybe you could get
lucky. Newer Windows XP compatible scanners have really come down in price:
I got a Lexmark Trio - Printer/Scanner/Copier with some really good software
(better OCR than what came with my Visioneer), quiet, fast, can be a stand
alone copier, and has a very good FAX program, and other utilities, which
only cost $62 on sale at Wal-Mart. If the Windows 2000 driver doesn't work,
your Visioneer will wind up a paperweight like mine. You can download the
Windows 2000 drivers at:

Oh well, it's just a spare scanner anyway.
