503 server needs authentication

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'(e-mail address removed)' on 19/03/2004 20:16
503 This mail server requires authentication.
Please check your mail client settings.
I have checked the my outgoing server needs
authentication in tool - email accounts - more settings -
outgoping server but it makes no difference.Same error
occurs when sending with pontesquash pop3 account and
hotmail account. Althopugh hotmail will send to
pontesquash account and pontesquash can send to
pontesquash account.

can anyone help please

What version of Outlook do you have? Which authentication methods have you
tried?
