On Windows XP Professional, when clicking on Start/Turn
Off.... how do i remove the StandBy option?

I only want users to be able to shutdown or restart a
laptop NOT put it in Standby mode accidently.

Additional Notes: I received 3 suggestions thus far and
none of them worked. They were.... 1) Set the standby
option in Power Options to Never (my system was already in
that state) 2) Disable standby in the BIOS (There is
nothing in my BIOS pertaining to power saving or standby)
3) Apply a local policy (I didn't find any local policies
directed towards turning off standby)

I'm not all that familiar with the Group Policy Editor (This assumes you
have XP Pro, the GPE is not available in XP Home Edition) but could you not
create a policy that would prevent users or a group of users from placing
the machine in Standby, that is as opposed to finding such a local policy.

If you have Home Edition, I don't believe there is any way to natively
accomplish what you want.

This is not recommended but you can try this from MVP Mark Ferguson. NOTE:
This may make your system unstable or not properly function.

You have installed ACPI if you can't turn off standby.

WinKey-Break, Hardware Tab, Device Manager Tab, Click the + next to
computer and double-click on Advanced Configuration and Power Interface
(ACPI)PC. Click Driver and Update Driver. Install from a list, then
"Don't Search" it should show Standard PC in the list. Shutdown and in
the BIOS, disable ACPI.

Reboot and Windows will re-detect your hardware
