George said:That's mean geak skwad. She is good.
I have gotten advice from her that no
one else had at their dispoal.
I don't know about her methods and her post
here was an attempt to help.
That she may be a little mislead by the
utility of her advice is really not herr fault.

George said:Like I said Sony will just find one that cannot be recognized. They already
exist.

George said:Your first is easy to answer. Because they got caught and now it is back to
the drawing board. The second I am unaware of. But don't count on things
staying that way. Where there's a will there's a way. Just because they
got caught with Rootkit A does not mean Rootkit B will never happen.

smb said:Thank you very much for this answer, and, unfortunately, I am about show the
depths of my ignorance, but here goes...
I cannot figure out how to back up my important files. When I go through
the normal start up windows will not allow me to log in under any
circumstances. In safe mode, my rom drives will not operate. I cannot burn
copies of anything. This is all complicated by the fact that I have a VAIO
(no XP disk). My options are the Application Recovery disks, which don't run
at start up and are therefore unavailable in my current predicament; or the
System Recovery disks, which will wipe my PC clean.
I was so desperate last night that I even checked out the "guilty until
proven innocent" option, but there honestly was no reference to a Reset5 in
my registry...
Am I just doomed to loosing my data?
