4 mins to start up, generally slow computer

My computer is still extremly slow, its a dell laptop with 512mb ram, a
mobile celeron 1.7ghz processor and 40gb of harddrive. I'm using 27gb of the
hard drive at present and have a d-link DWL-G650+ wireless card. The laptop
takes around 4 mins from turning on to finally inisilising all the start up
componts. I have de-fragemented the disk, used clean up and removed some of
the start up items from the MSCONFIG. This still hasn't made much
difference. I have also used norton utilities to do a virus scan and have
removed most of the programs such as adware.

Hi,

Two things I would do:

1) Disable the Norton utilities and see what effect that has.

2) How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP [Q310560]
