3rd Party Install Problem

M

Mark Miller

I am suddenly having a problem installing upgrades to
several 3rd party programs. First was an upgate to the
KDS CD organizer software. I D/L'd the update and
unzipped it but when I went to the directory where it was
unzipped to and clicked on setup.exe I got an error
message telling me that setup.exe could not be found??

I called KDS and they sent me a CD but when I tried to
run it I got an error saying the drive was not ready???
I can explore and see the files on the CD and I tried
both CD drives on my system with the same result. I can
run the CD on my laptop so I know it's not the CD.

I am having the same problem with a D/L'd upgrade to
Seti@Home.

I am running XP Home w/ Norton Internet Security. I have
checked both MS and Symantec knowlege bases and can't
find anything close to this. I even tried reinstalling
XP thinking I may have had a corrupted system file but
that didn't change a thing.

HELP!!!!!

Hi Mark,

Suggestions:

1. Browse to the appropriate Setup.exe or Install.exe program
2. Right click on the setup program and select "Run As..."
3. Uncheck the box that says protect my computer and data from unauthorized
program activity.

Note: Doing this alters the default protection only for this
operation/setup program... it does NOT disable it permanently.

If that doesn't help empty your TIF files and check your run and runonce
keys. At times, setup.exe are listed there and need to be removed.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Tried the "Run as". No luck.
Checked the Run and Run once in the registry. Nothing.
Not real sure what you mean by TIF files or where they
would be located, could you give me a little more info
there?

Thanks,
Mark
