3D display problem

Drew

This is my system:

Win XP Home
1GB RAM
X800 Pro (not overclocked)
Athlon 64 FX-53 (not overclocked)

I am getting strange horizontal bars when viewing 3D objects. This first
happened in the game "Prey" but also in the 3D preview area in the ATI
control panel as well. At first I thought it was a V-Sync problem but turned
it off and it still had the problem. Im using DirectX 9c and the latest
radeon drivers.

That is a screenshot of what is happening. Anyone have any thoughts?

When that happened to me it was my power supply. A new NAME brand P.S.
stopped it cold. I went from a no name 325w. power supply to a Antec 450w
P.S. Worth a try.

I checked on my PS and I have a 500W. It doesn't mess up on anything else..
works fine on all 2D stuff.. even the 3D screensavers that come with
windows. I made sure it was seated correctly on the mobo. It's a X800 Pro...
an older card... so, I shoul dbe able to get a replacment for cheap.. I just
wanna rule everything else out before I spend the money.

Do you have Catalyst Control Center installed? If you do, check the
temperatures that it is reporting. Maybe you're fan/heatsink has come
loose. Have you always owned this card? Any possibility that it's been
re-marked and is running overclocked (not by you)?

Yea, always owned it.. it was working fine.. then I installed the beta of
Vista.. then did a format/fresh install back to XP and running into the
problem.

Yea, that sounds about right, maybe just a little high, but nothing to
worry about.
