3Com 3C90X-BC Family PCI Event message

K

Kima

Every time I log into my Windows 2000 pro computer , the
Event Viewer records the following:

Source: Service Control Manger
EventID: 7000

Type: Error

The 3com 3C90X-BC Family PCI EtherLink Adapter service
failed to start due to the following error: the system
can not find the file specified.

Yet, I am able to login to our network just fine; find all
my network files; see my network mappings, etc. However,
I wonder if my slow network connection is caused by this
error. In other words, I get connected but it responds
very slowly and often sluggish.

Anyone have any advice or words of wisdom on this?

Move the NIC to another PCI slot.

I seem to recall there is some 3Com NIC management software that can
be installed. If you removed the software, it left some entries on
your computer and generate the error. But everything else worked
fine.

I don't know if this applies to your case, but it may be worth your
while to check on the 3Com support web site.
