32bit or 64bit

If you haven't bought the computer recently then most likely than not you
have a 32 bit system. However, you can check this by right-clicking on "My
Computer" and then select properties. If you have a 64 bit system, it would
say so otherwise it will just say:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

hth

if you run:

msinfo32

it will provide you
with processor info

if there is an x86
notation,

then this refers to
32 bit.

if however, there is
a notation referring
to the number 64,
"like" x86-64, etc..

then this implies a
64 bit.

where do i go to find out if i have a 32bit or 64bit system

You've already gotten several good answers, but I'll just add this: if
you don't know, almost certainly it's 32-bit.

If they, for sure, have Windows XP - I agree completely.
If they have Windows Vista or Windows 7 - it is not so clear-cut.

I know - they posted in a "windowsxp" newsgroup... One should be able to
safely assume they have Windows XP. I'd give it just better than 75%
personally. *grin*

Right. I agree completely too.

I'll take him at his word. If he asked a question in the wrong
newsgroup, he is likely to get all sorts of wrong information, based
on all of our assumptions about his situation. If, for example, he's
running linux, not Windows XP, all the answers he got were useless to
him.
