The 64bit is for servers only,if you have a home
computer for normal use you have 32bit.

It's highly unlikely that you have 64 bit. To be sure, open your command
prompt (cmd.exe) and enter WINVER. If it's 64 bit, it'll say so.

I think 64 bit XP is still undergoing testing so if you are not one the
testers you will not have it.

If your attached hardware works, you are unlikely to have the 64bit O/S :)

Before rushing headlong into putting this on your PC you should make very
sure that 64bit drivers are available for all your peripheral hardware
otherwise the added load of emulating 64 bit with 32 bit drivers will slow
your system considerably to the point where you would be much faster using a
64bit processor with the current 32 bit version O/S.

Hi,

Start/run winver

If it is the 64 bit version, this will tell you it is. Very few home users
would have this version, and those who do likely would know that they do.
The 32 bit version is the one commonly found on most home and office
machines. The 64 bit version is made for some very expensive hardware.

No it is available for purchase on computers with Intel Itanium processors
and has been available for some time now.

First, the op said nothing aboput installing the 64bit version and second
the 64 bit version will only run on a system with an Intel Itanium
Processor.

You have the 32 bit version.

Windows XP Home = 32 bit.

Windows XP Pro = 32 bit.

Windows XP Media Center Edition = 32 bit

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition = 32 bit

Windows XP 64 bit Edition = 64 bit.

Start, run, type in: winver, hit enter.

Greetings --

If you have to ask, you're almost definitely running the 32-bit
version of WinXP. (I'm not trying to be facetious; I'm sure you'd
have noticed paying several thousand dollars more for the Itanium or
Itanium II CPU required to run the 64-bit version of WinXP Pro.)
There is no 64-bit version of WinXP Home.

To verify for yourself, Click Start > Run, type in "Winver" and
press <Enter>. If the resulting dialog box does not _explicitly_
state that you have "Windows XP 64-Bit Edition," then you have a
32-bit OS.
