32 Bit or 64 Bit Edition?

Hello. I'm one of many people who needs to install
Microsoft's patch to protect my Windows XP Pro computer
from the Blaster virus (W32.Blaster.Worm, according to
Norton AV). I went to Microsoft's webpage to download the
patch but when I get there I'm given the choice of
downloading the patch for the 32 and 64 bit editions on XP
Pro. It doesn't tell me, though how I find out whether I
have the 32 or 64 bit edition. The file sizes of the two
patches are different so downloading the correct patch
must be important.

1. Can anyone tell me whether I'm running the 32 bit or 64
bit edition of Win XP Pro? Here's my info: Windows XP
Professional 2002 Version 5.1 Service Pack 1 Build 2600
(Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633 : Service Pack 1)

2. If the information I provided isn't enough to tell you
whether I'm running the 32 bit or 64 bit edition of XP,
could anyone please tell me how I can find out which
edition (32 or 64 bit) I'm running on my own?

Thank you very much for your help.

Jeremy

Oh, my god, someone gave info they thought would be helpful!

While we actually don't *need* the info you gave, THANK YOU!

You have 32 bit. 64 runs on Itanium based systems - and you'd know if you
have them, and they'd probably be under the care of an IT department so you
wouldn't have to worry about it... Anything on a home system, anything
bought in a store, anything under $3000 is definately running 32 bit.

If you have to ask if your copy of XP is 32 or 64 bit, it's 32.

Hello all,

I will be posting this on several threads; however to tell if you have a
64-bit vs. a 32-bit computer, just run the System Information tool. (type
winmsd at in the Run box) If you have a 32-bit system, the "System Type"
listed should be something like"X86-based PC". If you have a 64-bit
system, you will see an entry stating something like "Itanium (TM) - based
PC". In addition, when looking at the processor(s) on the computer, a
32-bit system should start with x86 and a 64-bit will start with ia64.
(didn't check an AMD or other processors to see if they show different)

I also noticed that on the Windows 2003 Server I tested, that the winver
tool showed in the artwork that the OS was built for 64-bit hardware.
(don't remember the exact wording)

Best regards,
