64-bit or 32-bit?

How can I tell from the content of an installation disk whether it
disk is for 32-bit machine or 64? Or does it matter?
Just curious.

I have no personal experience with this, but I would assume that
if your machine is 32bit and the software is 64bit, it will tell
you it can not install or just sit there and do nothing. Also,
decent software /should /say whether it is 32 or 64 bit in the
package AND on the disc.

What does it say on the install CD? Does is say x64? If not, it's a 32-bit
version.

It will be obvious whether or not you have the x64 edition. If you don't
see "x64" then you don't have it.
 
Right click on Computer>Properties and it will tell you under "System
Type".

If it is not printed on the CD and has not yet been installed, how do
you tell from the content of the CD...

My installation CD is a copy of an original and says Office Depot on
it and has not been installed.
