3.5 to 2.5 Converter -- is there a kit for it?

2.5 to 3.5 interfaces are common (to use your laptop drive with your
desktop IDE interface).

BUT I am looking for 3.5 to 2.5 interface (IDE Hard-drive to connect
to my 2.5 laptop interface). Assuming the 2.5 interface puts out enough
power for the bigger 3.5 HD, is there such and interface. I just don't
see it.

Thanks for any hints... Stomped!
Ben

P.S. I am trying to hookup up a 3.5 drive to my 2.5 inch external usb
drive enclosure and don't want to buy the 3.5 enclosure.

Thats your problem. There is no 12V power in the
2.5" interface, so there cant be a simple mechanical
converter like there is going the other way.
is there such and interface.

Nope, and there cant be.
I just don't see it.

There might just be a reason for that.

Stomped even worse now |-)

You'll have to if the 3.5" drive needs 12V. Most do.

Yes, of course, the power has to be supplied externally.
A simple PCB inteface and 12V. power supply is all you need
then? Still it seems useful enough that perhaps there
is a kit out there? I hope at least...

Thanks for the insight,
Ben

Yes, but what is the point when you can buy external enclosures for 3.5" drives ?

Yep, external enclosures for 3.5" drives.

Maplins and no doubt other shops sell a USB to 3.5 interface that comes with
a power supply (mains) so you would need a "long mains lead" if you wished
to use it while one the road! but when static just plug and go. A small ali
plate and a few screws will protect the open side of the disk and as its in
free air there is no need for cooling fans but you do have the extra noise.

PS
Wiebetech do a range of disk interfaces, they do firewire (1394) not certain
if they do a USB version. They do sell ali plates for the disks as well but
a bit expensive.
