2nd SATA drive grinding system to a halt

ok so ive got an asus a8v ese motherboard that ive successfully been
running 1 SATA ii 250GB and an IDE DVD burner for over 6 months. i ran
out of space and bought a 2nd SATA 250 gb drive and installed it the
other day and ghosted windows onto it.

since then the system has been running incredibly slow. dvds are
burning at pathetic speeds (even tho its still set to 16x), games are
running slow, and unRARing files takes eons! i tried unplugging the
2nd HDD so just the new windows ghosted drive was running and it was
fine, so i expect its not the ghosting thats the problem. this also
happened a few months ago when i put in a 2nd IDE drive just for an
hour or so just to get some files off it. I reckon its a hardware
issue.

is there any rules when having 2 SATA drives and an IDE dvd burner?
ive got the drives on sata 1 and 2 on the motherboard and the burner
on IDE 1 master. any tips MUCH appreciated!!

Cheers

sure if you ****ed something up! many systems running 1,2,3+ SATA drives
with the ide dvd and not a problem.

uninstall the mainboard drivers and reinstall them, then all of the other
drivers.

ghost is crap! and what possesed you to ghost to the new drive instead of
adding it as storage???????

unfuck what you have done and add the 2nd drive as a storage drive thru the
management console and be done with it

Why did you need to ghost windows onto
it if its the same size as the original drive ?

Check if the drives are running in DMA mode.

Looks like it.

Have you got windows on both drives? As mentioned above, you should have
just added the new drive and set it up as single NTFS for data or installing
new apps. You could set up swap file on the new drive to free up space on
original drive.
