Hard drive SATA IDE question

B

brother

Hi, I have 2 IDE drives in my pc.
one has a backup image, done with Acronis, of my main drive,
which I have used on several occasions to restore my pc.
My motherboard, an Asus A8V deluxe, also takes SATA drives.

If I replaced my main drive with a SATA drive, would my bios read
the SATA first? and could I restore a SATA drive from an image on a IDE?

I could replace both drives with SATA, but how would I be able to copy
my stored image on to it from my IDE?

Thanks !

The BIOS will read whatever drive you set it to read 1st.........look into
your BIOS there should be a Boot Order..and then a choice of HD to boot
from.
An Image on a IDE drive can be restored to a SATA drive........But Acronis
also lets you Clone your present main drive to the SATA drive.

I also have an a8v but have not installed a SATA drive because I do not
think you will notice much of a difference. The drive speed has to be
jumpered to a slower speed.

The bios allows one to set the boot order, I have mine at floppy, cd-rom,
then the HD.

As for backups, I pretty much dropped the idea of restoring images, etc. I
make sure data is separated from programs and backup the data.
