Hi Ralph,

More information is needed.

Does your motherboard support two masters? Two IDE Channels?

Are you talking about two Hard Drive Masters?

how to assign as secondary master

You assign drives as masters or slaves with jumpers. These days, the
jumper funcitons are marked on the drive label. Each channel can have only
one master. Some drives have an extra SP jumper, which indicates that that
drive is the Master and that there is a second drive as Slave on the cable.
The slave will have the SL jumper covered.

Many systems these days use the Cable Select system (the CS jumpers). With
this, the drives are all jumpered the same (CS) and the primary drive is the
one at the end of the cable.

my asus a7n8x-x mb support2 channels i have 2 hd each 20 gig.the master is
the ibm and the slave is seaqgate. the secondry is listed in the bios as my
cd/rw and slave is cd-rom. my goal is to use the seagate as a mirror for my c
drive. the software to copy is called eraseus and will not function unless it
sees a secondary master. i'm stuck.ralph

Hi Ralph,

Not necessarily stuck. Do you have an open PCI slot for an Ultra ATA 100
or 133 PCI Adapter Card? This would be a good way to have 4 Masters in your
computer. There is a big problem, internally. The way that the Hard Drives
are installed and CD Drives, the cables aren't that long to connect from the
Hard Drive to the CD Drives and back down to the motherboard.

Or can you add a USB or Firewire Hard Drive?

Assuming that you mean that the target hard drive for the copy
must be a Master on the secondary IDE channel, just move the
Seagate HD to the Master mode on the secondary channel,
and move the CD/RW to the Slave mode on the primary channel.
The difference in speeds of the 2 devices on a channel won't
have any effect.
