I installed a new hard drive, thought the old one was dying. Turns out
it was something else. I've left the new drive in place but disabled it.
Does it still run every time the pc is started? Should I disconnect the
power wire to it? Or just go ahead and take it out?

If the old drive is still working then you might want to use it for the swap
file, temp directory, etc.

Sarah, you may want to use the old drive for extra storage. Just
disconnect the white power connector.

It would be a bit dificult to use as extra storage if the power connector
was disconnected :)

Why disable it?
Use it as a drive to keep your backups on - you do backup dont you?

Thanks to all for your thoughts. What I wanted to do was to keep the new
drive for the future when the old drive does fail. I have more than enough
space on the old drive for all my needs - they're not much - and yes I do
backups regularly. Putting them on CD's or floppys as the case may be.

If you do not want the drive powered up then disconnect it by pulling the
power cable. If you keep the power cable attached it will spin even though
it is not in use.
