Will it hurt to use the large sp2 on a single computer?
What is the difference? I already have it downloaded but
it says wait. I do not want to mess anything up. Just
curious and impatient. I would also like to put it on
someone's computer that has had a lot of trouble with
virus attacks and they have dial up so I wanted to take it
on cd. I have one with XP Pro and one XP on a router but
not on a lan.

I used it on my computer. No problems,
As far as I know the only difference is that this is the whole package,
including all hotfixes since SP1. If you use windowsupdate it scans your
computer and only downloads those parts you need and don't have already
installed.
Since you already downloaded the whole bunch I don't see how applying this
can cause any trouble in relation to using windowsupdate.

It won't hurt, no.
The difference is that the large "Network Installation" contains the entire
service pack. The smaller "Express Installation" that will be available
later on will only download and apply the patches that your machine needs.

Thanks mike and Gerard

Hi Sammy
There is no problem using the larger installer on a single machine, it may
perhaps be better in some cases as you could burn it to CD for future use or
for sharing. The reason its not recommended for a single machine is that if
your using the express installer (which should be on automatic update fairly
soon) on Home or Professional Edition you will probably only need to
download something in the region of about 100Mb, the full installer contains
updates for everything Home, Pro, Tablet and Media Center Edition rather
than just what's actually on your machine.

SP2 is not an anti-virus program.

No reason at all why not. It is complete - parts that are not needed
will not get used. The other way is being pushed in an attempt to keep
the volume of download under some control.

Burn it to a CD and use it on all the machines you have around
