I'm getting a compaq laptop 2190US which has intel celeron 2.4 ghz
with 256MB DDR SDRAM memory(expandable to over 1 gigs) so will it run
Windows XP ok?

The processor is more than sufficient. How much memory *you* need
depends on what apps you run. But for most people running a range
of common business applications, 256MB is OK.

If you do things like edit large photographic images, you might
want to add memory. Otherwise it's probably fine.

Thank you Jax! I'm wondering if you may know this, I'll post this in a
standalone thread if you don't answer.

The laptop that I sold has windows xp UPGRADE which I just activated. Since it
will be going to a new owner, how shall I reinstall it?? Should I install
windows me than install the upgrade over that? I realize there will be a
partition that I will have to delete so the poor new owner won't be stuck with
only a 1gig on the hard drive.

What about activation?? Will this person
be able to activate on the machine?

The activation forms part of the installation on the machine - it is not
related to the owner. You can sell the machine, complete with installed
system, and the new owner need no action. You must include the Product
Key and CD in case he wants to re-install, when hew will use that key,
and activate the fresh install on the net just as the first time. Note
that you may *not* re-use it yourself.

As it is an upgrade, this, top meet the terms of the license should
include also handing over the CD and Key that form the system hat was
upgraded

A 64 MB ATI card is AGP. It will use the cards 64 MB of
dedicated VRAM but all AGP cards can access system RAM when
needed.

Which means what? Jax said the card has it's own 64 mb but how can it if it
shares the main memory? Will that affect the computer running applications, mid
level games etc? I know the processor is 2.4 ghz but wondering. I'm still not
clear on this totally.

Most games will use under or 64MB unless you have a big monitor and use high
colour and resolution. Didn't see the full post - but if your card has its
own 64MB then it will not use any RAM unless it needs more than this.

Either way don't worry about it.
