The length of a windows file path is (still) limited to
255 characters, a limit that it is now very easy to
reach!

(1) Does XP include any validation to prevent users
exceeding this limit? (none observed)

(2) Is there any tool for checking the length of the
existing file paths within a drive?

(3) Can the existance of long (at the limit) file paths
result in XP behaving unpredictably?

1 - experiment creating folders with long names, within folders with long
names. At about 275 total path length I could not add more characters to
the folder name, nor create a document within the bottom level folder.

2 - dunno

3 - yep - try to copy a file to a folder nearly at the length limit - copied
file seems to end up in a limbo state<g>
