2007 Watermarks not showing

I am inserting custom texts watermarks and while they flash for a second on
screen they then disappear. I have tried this in a new document as well as
an existing. If I access my header it shows but when I go into my main
document it disappears

Any ideas

In what view are you displaying the document? Does the watermark show in
Print Preview?
