2007 viewer

I have had several problems with te PPT 2007 viewer. I have saved quite a
number of presentations as PPSX files and most play absolutely fine on
another machine with the viewer, however, some don't. There seems no logic to
which ones don't work except their size - they tend to be larger files, but
none larger than 15MBytes. I have 4 files on a laptop, all saved at the same
time from a PC running 2007, three run fine, one won't.

This happened overseas once recently - but exactly the same file worked fine
on another XP machine running the same PPT version (2003). I also saved the
file as a PPT 2003 version, but it also failed to show.

Cannot figure this one out at all.

Hi, Terry,

What's happening with the ones that don't run fine? Are they running and
then crashing, won't open at all, backgrounds not showing, what?

Did the files begin life as 2003 presentations, or were they created
strictly as PPT 2007 presentations?

Do the other computers have Windows certified printer drivers installed and
set as default printers?

Did you use Package for CD to save and view the files? I'm asking because
the whole Viewer thing is rather a mess. The Viewer that shipped with PPT
doesn't have the compatibility pack added, so it actually views PPT/PPS
files. So when you package for CD in 2007, it backsaves the file to 2003
format.

The 2007 Viewer you download from the MS site has the compatibility pack
added. So it will open PPTX/PPSX files. BUT it won't run from a CD -- which
is why PPT 2007 Package for CD backsaves to 2003 format. :)

Complicated enough yet? It makes me kind of crazy....

Thanks Echo, how are you?

The Viewer splash screen loads - then an error message that says viewer
can't open file. Tried Open With> PPT Viewer, same problem. Sometimes nada
happens, no splash screen, nothing.

Started life as 2007 files, then saved as PPSX. As I said, also tried saving
as 2003 PPT and PPS to no avail.

Haven't used Package for CD. Not sure about printer drivers - one was in
Hong Kong, should I go back and ask...will MS pay? Want to come with me?

I'm great, Terry -- hope all is well with you.

Hm.

My first inclination would be that you were using the shipped Viewer but
trying to open PPSX files -- which won't work. But if it's balking on 2003
format, too, hmm...very strange.

I'd love to go to Hong Kong and check the printer drivers! When do we
leave?!

If you still have one and want to shoot me a sample file that won't open, I
can try to find a few minutes tomorrow to see if I can figure anything out.
I know you have my email address.
