I am using xp pro and 2007 Outlook. When I attach a file, specifically a
jpeg, the system locks and crashes. This just started.

You are not posting any info to work with here.

Outlook crashes or your system/Windows crashes? Big difference!
What is being logged to the Event Viewer regarding this?
At what exact points does it crash?
Does it only crash when attaching a jpeg?
Steps to reproduce? There are many ways to attach an item.

Outlook 2007 crashes when I attempt to attach any file to an outgoing
message. It crashes within 30 seconds after I hit send.

Sounds to me that your have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook and
causes the crash. Disable this integration and try again.

I am having the very same problems only my Outlook 2007 crashes as soon as I
hit the attach file icon. McAfee is disabled. Only outlook crashes.
Sometimes is crashes when i hit the icon and other times it allows me to get
to the point where I am picking files.

Any ideas?!?

Same problem here too, using Outlook 2007 on Vista. It crashes whin the
file dialog is up to attach a file. This also occured in Power Point a few
times, so it may not be isolated to Outlook. I did look at the event viewer
and I see 3 different messages that occur consistantly for Outlook, one for
Powerpoint and even one for all of Explorer, all below. The most common
cause is MSVCR80.dll, but there were a few occurances from ntdll.dll as well.

I'm thinking it may be related to memory, but since these occur only when
trying to access the file system, I'm not so sure. Other than these crashes
when accessing file system, the system is stable.
