2003 Upgrade

Confused

I'm running (or believe to be running) Office XP and
tried to install 2003 Access upgrade. It could not find
Office on my hard drive and stopped the installation. Do
I need a different version of Access (i.e. not the
upgrade) or did I buy a bad disk?
 
Just having Office installed is insufficient for the A2003 upgrade. It
searches for a prior version of Access.

Can't speak to the bad disk issue however.
