2003 margin management

In Access2003 sp2 A report's margins per file/page set up show .25 for 3
sides but .516 for the right side...

this makes the report look skewed to the left with too much white space on
right.

I enter .25 and when I tab to another box it reverts right back to .516

kind of cruel in a way to tease you into thinking you can change the
margin...but it won't stick....

searching around this site I've found only advice toward a bug in
Access2000...kind of get the feeling I am missing something easy since there
is not more dialog on this...... would welcome guidance....

Well, it's not easy, but the usual reason is pretty simple.
Your printer (driver?) doesn't allow a right margin smaller
than .516

I've seen some printers that have a margin that must be at
least .7 and each printer's margins might have a different
minimum. I learned that I just have to design reports with
all margins set to .7 so things would continue to work when
users decided to go out and buy a new printer without
checking to see if its specs met their needs.

I appreciate that you MVPs take the time to answer these questions.

I created a new experimental report and it had all the same issues....I can
increase the left margin to .516 to make it looked centered...but can't
reduce the right side under .516....

Looked at ControlPanel/printer...but didn't see any parameter for this in
the hp deskjet - -so haven't found a fix; but don't fiddle around with
printers all that often so there may be a way to change things that I just
don't know about....

If your printer (or its driver) can not deal with smaller
margins, there is nothing you can do beyond using a
different printer.

If you dig deeply enough into your printer's specs, it
should(?) tell you its minimum margin requirements. Since
the minimum margins are determined by the printer's paper
transport mechanism (something has to grab hold of the
paper to move it through the machine), there are no
parameters that can change the mechanical actions of the
printer.

If you can not find the margin specs in the printer's
manual, then just go into any report's design and set all
the margins to 0. They will automatically be reset to the
minimums allowed.
