I have outlook 2002 running XP. When I send email to any
previous outlook versions, they get the mail with .dat .
I can send either a text message or attached file and the
mail that is recieved by the earlier version get the .dat
extension and nothing else. Is there a fix?

Send your messages in either plain text or HTML modes, not rich text mode.

BTW - There was no such thing as Outlook 95.

There is no Outlook 95. Try composing your messages in plain text format.

I have tried the changes you recommended but some who use
OS's like W2k, NT. and W98 get the .dat problem. When I
converted my laptop from 2k to XP to include the office
suite, the problem went away.
