unable to send jpgs using Outlook 2002

Hi, I am unable to send jpg files as attachments using Outlook 2002 SP3 through Gmail.
There's no issue sending the same attachments using Outlook Express v6. No problems sending text files using either client. Anybody have a clue? There is no issue with the size here - all attachments together were less than 1 MB.

The error is as below:

Task 'pop.gmail.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC6D) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: 552 5.7.0 to review our attachment guidelines. 32sm15152171wfc.16'

Further, the account options needed for Gmail (to use SSL and other options like port to be used, "SMTP needs authentication" etc.), do not stick when Outlook is restarted. I have to set them all over each time i start Outlook. I tried creating a new profile but was no good. Can somebody help me out? Using Windows xp btw.

Thanks,

Vivek

Sounds like you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook and does a
bad job at it. Disable this integration and try again. Don't worry, you
don't need this integration anyway and the on-access scanner of your virus
scanner is enough.

Hi Roady, Thanks for the tip.

I'm using Avast AV and the "Outlook/Exchange" module is turned off. Any ideas why the account options needed for Gmail (to use SSL, port to be used, "SMTP needs authentication" etc.), do not stick when Outlook is restarted?

With Outlook closed, try deleting the (normally hidden) file
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\mailprofile.srs, where "mailprofile" is the name
of your mail profile.

Hi Brian, I tried deleting as you said, then started Outlook, set the account options and exited Outlook but the options did not stick even after this little dance :(

Just to make sure I did it right, since I rarely use Outlook: I set the POP options for Gmail by choosing Tools | Options | Mail setup | Send/Receive | Edit | Account Properties. I hope this is what is needed for it to work right?

Thanks,
Vivek

And you've made sure you've configured your gmail account for POP/SMTP
access, correct?

Yup, I used the same settings as in Outlook Express and also checked with the gmail help online.
What I don't get is why Outlook is not retaining settings

Also why we have to go through such a long click-series to configure pop/smtp :(

Thanks,
Vivek
