2000Pro error

Have a friend running Microsoft 2000 Pro. As of a couple
days ago system starts to boot..."invalid boot.ini
booting from c:\winnt" comes on screen. Then throws an NT
Authority\System error. with c:\winnt\system32
\services.exe status code 128. Countdown time reboots
system in about 60 seconds and it just keeps looping
through that. Read the KB fix suggestion from MS but the
system won't even boot into SAFE mode to be able to check
registry. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Two separate issues. These may help.

Thanks for the tips so far. Downloaded the 2 programs listed in the tech
note links...BUT...the system will not boot into Safe Mode. I am using a DOS
bootdisk created from XP to get to a system prompt. Found that the programs
will not run outside of Windows. HELP!! Any other suggestions?
