I recently installed Windows 2000 on a 20 gb partition, I have xp pro
on 20g & server 2003 on 20 gb. with 3 20 gb left
On another drive i have 60gb woith nothing
Why caNT i START XP OR SERVER ONLY 2000.
i CHEWCKED BOOT.INI IN C DRIVE[XP PRO DRIVE]
I could not find boot.ini in 2000 I even did a search and it led to c
drive. Is this right?
I did this before and just had to edit the boot.inbi file to get all
operating systems bgooting on selectionb.
What did I do wrong?
Yes it is strange but it is for a school project.

Hi,

You overwrote ntldr and ntdetect.com with the older version in Win, which do
not recognize WinXP or Server 2003. Overwrite them with the ones on the
Server 2003 disk.

What about boot.ini or anything else?
Thje only hidden file in the root is pagefile.sys
It should be the same to copy the files from XP & paste into 2000 root,
or is it different from off the CD?
Thanks so far for excellent feedback

Hi,

You want the ones from Server 2K3, whether or not pagefile.sys is hidden
doesn't matter. Boot.ini is treated the same by all three versions.

I tried all of the above with bnoth XP & 2003 server and still cannot
boot anything except 2000.
If I format 2000 out of there I probably still can't boot into XP.
Right?
Any more ideas?

Hi,

Right, if you format you will only make matters worse. Are you positive you
are copying the files to the root of the active partition?

It pays to pay attention,l of course it works when you do it right.
Maybe put instructions in Bold & Underlined it might help.
I was putting nldr & ntdetect in the root of 2000. HMMM wonder why it
did not work???Thanks for your help & patience
