I gave my last computer to my sister-in -law last year.
It had MS Windows 2000 pro on it. I was over at her
house today and noticed that the username in use still
had my name. I went into the control panel, found the
users and changed the name to hers. Next time to
startup, I get the window with the username and the
password. SInce it was auto, I had forgotten that it was
password protected. Now it won't recognize the user, and
It won't accept any combo of names and passwords. I
can't even load windows so I can forget it. Oh, and
about a month ago I was cleaning out piles of very old
computer stuff and managed to throw the windows 2000
disks away.
Help me Mr. Wizard!

when you installed it I think it asked for a password and it was for the
administrators account...the million dollar question is "what was that
password". Or did you change the name of your admin account to something
else...

When you first loaded Win2000, you were prompted for a password
for the "administrator" account. It's not possible to get past this
screen without specifying a password (which could be blank). You
now need to log on under the "administrator" account, and enter
the password you specified at install time. This will allow you to
reset the password for your own account.
