2000 <---> 98 connection problem

Robert Finn

I have 4 pcs at home networked by 10mb phoneline cards.
The 1st machine runs win2kpro and has a cable internet
connection that is shared. 2 other machines have xp home,
and the 4th is running 98se. All works well, except just
between the win2kpro pc and the 98se pc. Each of these
computers will see the other in Network Neighborhood or
Computers Near Me. All pcs are in the same workgroup.
However, I can't access the 98 machine from the win2k
machine or vice-versa, I'll get the message that path was
not found. ICS works for all machines except the 98se.

I've carefully checked how each pc is configured, and
haven't been able to find an answer as yet. Any help is
much appreciated.

Here's the answer....

You need to go to the WinXP machine, goto Network
Neighborhood, then properties. You should see NETWORK
SETUP WIZARD there. Run that. It will create a disk in a:
that builds a little program to make 98, ME and XP talk to
each other. It's a simple little program but will take
away all the troubles of seeing the 98 machine.

Hi! Robber Finn,
from Ormand,
I guess that your Windows 98SE's protocol should be added TCP/IP
( or only TCP/IP protocol.)

*** Windows XP's default protocol is just TCP/IP,
but Windows98SE's default is not
TCP/IP. ****
If this can not work then, I can tell more later.

Good Luck!
p.s.
I suggest that
you should not use "NETWORK
SETUP WIZARD of WindowsXP" for Windows98SE!
