I have 2 questions.1. I have problems passing documents from my computer ( windows xp) to other computers that work with windows 98. the documents somtimes became messed and there is no way to pass it normaly and without changes. How can I fix that? Is there any way to pass doc from xp to 98 without problems?
2. It isn't in my computer. I know somone that bought a new computer with xp . there is no way to open doc. from files or from the desktop. Only if u openi it from the file menu in Word, and then open, u can get to saved documents. The computer owner has never before had an computer , and thus us a realy bad start for him.
Can someone help me?I will be very happy for any answer and advice.

when passing documents from one machine to another you must be sure the
other machine has the same version of Word or later, or that you save the
document as the older version. You should also be sure that the other
machine has all the fonts needed. and if you are doing compound documents
(ones that include excel or other embedded objects) the same tools need to
be on the other machine also.

for your friend, i would do a repair installation of office. it would seem
that he is missing the file associations needed to open files by clicking on
them. a repair installation should fix that. if not you could manually
associate the .doc file type with Word, but i would worry about why it
didn't work properly from the start.

also, for office related problems like these you may want to ask in one of
the office product groups to get more specific answers.
