2 residential connections with routers

Hi, I've never tried remotely connecting my computers, so
bear with me. I have 2 desktop systems running XP Pro in
different cities, San Francisco and LA. Both use cable
internet and wireless routers, and I want to be able to
connect to my LA computer from the one in SF. I've set
up the computer in LA to allow users to connect
remotely. In SF, I try using the REMOTE DESKTOP
CONNECTION. It asks for a computer name, so I give it my
LA computer's name. But that doesn't work. What now?
