I just rebuilt a system and installed WinXP...but when I boot, I am prompted
to select what OS I want to boot to...but both options are WinXP...I did
notice there is a Windows and a Windows.0 directory...

Am I gonna have to reformat and start from scratch and reformat and
reinstall WinXP???

Thanks in advance!

Just a question:

Were you upgrading your PC's hardware? New motherboard, etc etc... if yes,
then it sounds like you decided to use your harddrive with an existing
installation of Windows XP already on it.

A "repair install" would of solved that issue. But it sounds to me like
you must of done a parallel installation of Windows by mistake.

This means that you did a parallel install, not a "clean" install or a
repair install. It definitely means that you did not format the drive
during the install.

Why did you rebuild the system?

Once you identify which version you actually want to boot from and where
it's located, you can delete the old windows folder. However, it's a good
idea to go through it in case there is any user data that was saved there.

Then, you modify the boot.ini to remove the reference to the old install.
To do that, right-click on My Computer, choose Properties, Advanced, Startup
and Recovery, then Edit in the Default Operating System section.

Of course, if you delete the wrong folder, you will have a bit of a problem.

And you should also check the Documents and Settings folder for duplicate
user accounts, too.

Will both of them boot or just one? How exactly did you do the
installation? What's the history of this installation?
