2 mysterious PowerPoint Crashes

G

Guest

Hi

As of today, I am experiencing 2 odd crashes.

1) Inserting a Flash animation using Swiff Point player (used loads of times
before on previous laptop). As soon as I select the required animation,
powerpoint just disappears. No error message or nothing!

2) Some (but not all) presentations cause PowerPoint to crash with a
'PowerPoint has experience a problem...' dialogue. However I can open the
same slideset from the recent files list or by double clicking the ppt file
in explorer!

Any ideas?

Regards

You mean when you select the animation in the SwiffPoint dialog? If so, then
I'd ask the SwiffPoint people if this is something they're aware of.

I'm a little confused, then. You can open the file by opening PPT and using
the file list at the bottom of the File menu (right?), or you can
double-click the file in Windows Explorer. So how is it you're opening the
file when you get the crash?

Since this started today, what has been changed on the system since the last
known good usage of these files and today? It could be some software you
installed -- not necessarily a PPT add-in, but maybe a Windows or Office
utility or even some completely unrelated software. Have you installed
service packs? Have you updated printer drivers? Antivirus DAT file updates?

What if you disable all PPT add-ins? Does everything work then? What add-ins
are loaded?http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00655.htm has info on how to locate
*all* the add-ins.

I have removed the Swiff software, and PowerPoint seems to be behaving now.

Thanks

I had a similar proble with flash crashing PowrePoint but only when I used
automation from my c++ program to start/stop the presentation. It actually
crashed PPT when I closed the presentation containing a flash object.
