2 different Outlook.pst's in use ?

Hi,

In Contacts I created sub folders to organize contacts. Today,
I added some new contacts and changed some email addresses.
While adding members (contacts) to a distribution list, I noticed
some contacts do not show up in their folder or have old email
addresses. I checked the sub folders, all contacts are present
and up-to-date (as expected).

I found 2 outlook.pst's to be in use, one in Local Docs and Settings,
and one at the network share. It appeares above operations do not
handle the same Outlook.pst ???? ;o

I moved outlook.pst recently to a network share to have access at
a 2nd pc (one at a time).

Q1) How to avoid loosing new and updated info (merge pst's)?
Q2) How to setup use of the network shared outlook.pst only?

I need to get this fixed VERY URGENTLY , please help !!!

TIA,
John7

Open both .PSTs in Outlook, copy the items from the local share PST into the
appropriate folders on the Network-share PST. Close the local PST (Tools |
Options | Mail Setup | Data Files) so that the network share one is the only
one in use.

Let me caution you that locating your PST on a network share can cause
issues - I've seen data file corruption and performance issues. You can do
it but make sure your network is solid and your PST is getting backed up
regularly.

Which PST do you have set to be your delivery location?

The network shared .pst is set to be my delivery lacation.
The other .pst is not even mentioned in any setting anymore
(that's what puzzles me)
Odd is, according to Modification dates they both get updated.

How about the Archive setting? Archive PSTs can be active without showing
in the folder list.

This, too, is consistent with an archive PST. Your description of the
Contacts behavior, however, is not. Open the other PST (File>Open>Outlook
Data File or Personal Folders File, depending on Outlook's version, which
you haven't given) and see if it has a Contacts folder and, if do, if the
old addresses are contained in it.

Thanks Ben and Brian,

I finaly fixed the problem. I opened the old local Outlook.pst
(which should not be in use anymore but still was), copied all
missing data to the current network shared Outlook.pst, closed
Outlook.exe, opened Outlook.exe, removed local Outlook.pst
from the data file list in Tools/Options/Mail Setup/Data Files,
closed Outlook.exe. Done.

I can't figure out what kept two Outlook.pst files in use while
only ONE was listed. Very weird.

Thanks again!
