Michael

I downloaded the latest NDivia graphics driver and before
you could say "crash" my screen went blank and a sign came
up on that said "Attention: Out of Range - 75Hz" (or
something like that). That's it - the computer ceased to
function. The display manual was no help.

I tried just about everything conceivable to fix the
problem (and yes, I know why it happened) but to no avail.
So I stuck the Recover WinXP CD into the drive and
rebooted. And that's when a second version of WinXP was
installed onto the computer. This is called Windows.0

I eventually fixed the problem with the display but now
whenever I turn on the computer, I get the option of
loading:

Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Home Edition

The default, of course, is the new one that I don't want.
Some of my programs have been affected (Antivirus, Zone
alarm) but basically the second OS is just an annoyance
(and it takes up ~1GB of disk space).

Anyone have any ideas about how I can get rid of it? I
tried renaming the Windows.0 directory (no good). And
there's no option to uninstall it from the Control Panel.

All help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Michael,

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig
Then go to the Boot.ini Tab and click on Check All Boot Paths. If you
receive a warning about a duplicate path: Do you want to remove, choose
yes.

Or...

Right click the My Computer icon/Properties/Advanced/Startup and
Recovery/Settings/System Startup/Edit.

This isn't a Windows XP Problem, it's just that the GFX
Card Drivers have installed and selected their default
settings for the display. The error message you are
getting is telling you that your monitor is unable to
display a picture with a Refresh rate of 75Hz.

But up XP into safe mode and then right click on the
background and select properties.
click on the settings Tab, click on the Advanced button at
the bottom of the window, Select the Monitor Tab and
select a different refresh rate, try 60Hz. If that does
not work then try a lower one.
