Hey Guys,

I am planning to build my first computer. It will mainly serve as a
gaming computer, as well a school tool. The OS will be Windows XP Pro
(from my old computer). Here are my core components, first revision:

ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition
AMD 64 X2 5000+ Windsor
Geforce 7950GT KO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16
Segate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA (x2)
RAID 0 configuration
Kingston 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) System Memory (x2)
NEC DVD+R 3550A
Samsung 204B
NeoPower 550W
Antec P-180B Case
Logitech MX1000
Logitech G15

Do you think that all these pieces will function well together? Here is
a list of the games that I would like to play on it: Rise of Nations,
Rise of Legends, Civilization 4, Command and Conquer: The First Decade,
Command and Conquer 3 (when it comes out), and Star Wars: Empire at
War. My price window is $2100 - 2400. Thanks for the help.

Any reason why you picked the AMD 5000+ instead of a Core 2 Duo? Locally
(in Alberta, Canada), you can get an E6400 processor for a little less ($25)
than the AMD X2 5000+ , and it will beat the 5000+ in most benchmarks.

You meant to say it will wipe the floor with anything AMD in all benchmarks,
right? :)

Right now, to build with anything other than Intel is foolish. Though that
hasn't been true for several years, Intel is IT, at the moment. -Dave

Well, besides a poor quality mainboard and a power supply that is LIKELY to
destroy every other connected component, the only problem I see is that you
can get a better gaming system for less money if you build with an Intel
processor, at the moment. -Dave

ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition

It will fail in about 6 months .. start randomly rebooting over and
over.
Kingston 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) System Memory (x2)

2 gigs is OK. This box will run 4 gigs or more.
NEC DVD+R 3550A

Noisy piece of garbage. Get the Sony.
War. My price window is $2100 - 2400. Thanks for the help.

Hmm. At that price, I would talk to Dell. Right now, I'm
testing a Dell Dimension 9150 with 7900 video card. It is
reliable, quiet, and a serious gamer. I have a wide screen
monitor, and that makes all the difference. Dell lcd monitors
are fine. You'll have to reinstall it from scratch because Dell
junks it out with garbage that steps all over games. The Dell
7900 video driver is very smart. Be sure to keep it.

Personally, I'd look at the pseudo-Dell; Alienware. They've got some pretty
snazzy gaming systems.

Nice board selection, I just built a home pvr/gaming box with the same
motherboard, although with a cheaper CPU and video card.

Double and triple check your RAM. Kingston 6400 ram _should_ work,
but, this board is VERY VERY picky about the RAM it accepts.
