Blue Screen Stop Code 0x00008086

I've searched the Web and the Microsoft site and I can't find what this error
code indicates.

I'm getting it about once a day on a new Dell Dimension 8400 with XP Home.

I've run the exhaustive hardware tests Dell includes and everything--hard
drive, memory--seems fine.
I
would appreciate any help or pointers to help.

Pellinore: the Kprobe problem is the result of the drive being run in AHCI mode with the Intel driver (iaStor.sys) controlling the SATA controller. Running Kprobe with this setup causes a Windows XP STOP 0X00008086 error. This Intel driver is part of Intel Application Accelerator. I don't know if it is the AHCI mode, or the Intel driver causing the problem (or both), but I strongly suspect the Intel driver--the driver seems to think the 716SA is a hard drive. To solve this problem, go into the BIOS setup, and switch the SATA mode from AHCI to ATA, and then *reinstall* Windows XP and all of your drivers and software. In ATA mode, the SATA controller uses standard Microsoft drivers--which is probably why the drive works perfectly and doesn't crash when Kprobe or pxscan is run (to be used on a Liteon drive, but while the Plextor drive is hooked up).

Or it is possible you have a problem hard drive. I would suggest a low level hard drive test that the hard drive mfg has on their web site

It's quite possible your hard drive has bad sectors.
What I'd recommend: Run CHKDSK /R from within the XP Recovery Console !

Set pc BIOS to boot from CDROM. Place XP CD in drive. Reboot from the CD.
Select the first option R Repair/Recovery Console. Select your Windows partition by number. Usually it is 1 .
Login to XP with administrator password. Then run CHKDSK /R from the command line.

Run it once (or repeat) until it shows no errors. This should clear the "dirty" flag on the disk drive C. Run CHKDSK for each drive on your system.
CHKDSK /R :X
where X is letter for disk drive

To exit the R Console, use the EXIT command.

Me too....

I am getting these messages as well with a new Dell Dimension 8400 with XP Media Center Edition - I have done some searching and am thinking that it may have to do with the CD/DVD burner or Sonic DLA or something along those lines - it is most frustrating.

Any ideas from anyone?
