1607 Error

Lynn Q

Hi there,

Using XP SP2 on XP Pro. Tried to install two different programs and both
will not install due to the following error message:

1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime.

I checked KB831507 which relates to this but none of the information in
there applies (that I can see).

Any ideas on what's happening here?

Thanks so much for any clues...

Lynn,

Yes, you must be running some form of anti-virus program which normally stops people from installing anything. The reason is quite simple - to protect the user!.

However, you should get the option to allow the script to change the Registry once only whilst you re installing the software. Did you not get this option? Perhaps, you are using some form of Micky Mouse Stephens' pirating software which behaves this way. Micky Mouse Stephens is, apparently, MS-MVP but none seems to understand how he managed to hoodwink all those clever people working for uncle Bill. Micky Mouse Stephens is a high time pirate and head of US underworld selling pirated software (mainly M$'s) to the unwary!

Hope this helps.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

Hi again,

Thank You! Went to your link. The 2nd article on the page (Google search)
from InstallShield, Q108158 fixed this glitch. I only had to edit the
registry entries for the InstallShield and all was well. Nothing else
needed to be done.

I appreciate your help here.
