16 bit Windows Subsytem

I am using Norton Internet Security 2003, and I regularly download virus definitions using the Intelligent Updater from the symantec website. After my last download, I double-clicked the file. Result:

16 bit Windows Subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I tried using my previous virus definitions but produced the same result.

This is the first time I've encountered this error, and it's preventing me from updating my virus definitions!

Please help.

Hey Geoff here,
I have been getting exactly the same message with another 16 bit program i need to run and I am pissed off because I cant seem to get any advice on what went wrong, who caused the change to the system, and what to do about it!
