16 bit screen mode

Hi, i'm kinda new to all of this so here goes. I loaded MotoRacer on my
computer but when I try to run it I get an error message "16 bit screen mode
is required. Abort, Retry, Ignore." I have gone to Control Panel, Display,
Settings and changed the screen mode to 16 bit (medium), clicked on apply,
then ok and I am still getting the error message. The game ran fine when I
first installed it, but now it won't run and I am getting kinda confused.
Does anyone have the simple answer for me that I am most probably overlooking?

Try display,advanced,adapter,list all modes,set to:high color,start at 70mhz,
the usual frame should be 800X600 depending on adapter.
You might also go to run, type:DXDIAG Run the direct X test utility

Right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager >
expand + your Display Adapter > double-click on you Display driver >
into the Driver tab > click Update Driver > check 'Yes, this time only',
Next >
check 'Install the software automatically', Next. When it locates your
correct Display driver it should reinstall it. Reboot your computer. Good
Luck.
