Found a fix on the newsgroup (xp_fix) which works beautifully. Only thing is
every time I switch off/on again I have to run the fix otherwise cant get
into my accounts program - any ideas please?

If you're referring to the XP_Fix posted by someone in XP.General group, it
seems to re-create the autoexec.nt and config.nt file when you execute it.
Whereas the problem is caused by a trojan which deletes these two files on
every boot probably. Your best bet is to clean the virus first, and then
extract the two .NT files again.

16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem error while installing or running a DOS application:

Alternate method - from Alex Nichol's post
Backup copy of the autoexec.nt and config.nt files are available in
C:\Windows\Repair folder, you may copy that to System32 folder.

Yes, I did get this from General group - I have Norton anti-virus which is
right up to date not showing any virus at all! Will run again, but otherwise
any other ideas please?

I went into safe mode and ran my Norton anti virus (up to date) again -
nothing found. I then went to the Symantec site and ran their security check
which took quite a long time with dial up! Again nothing found. Do you have
any other ideas please? I have tried deleting config.nt, command.com and
autoexec.nt from system 32 and then trying but still get error message.
