137GB hard drive limit

Continuation of previous posting. I completed a fresh
install of XP Pro on a new WD160GB hard drive. WD
software warned going over 137 w/o SP1 and so I installed
that way to later incorporate the service pack. So far
I've been unsucessful freeing up the unallocated 21GB.
Currently, the bios recognizes 160GB, I've installed SP1,
the hotfix for atapi.sys, entered the registry line for
EnableBigLba, used Disk Manager to attempt to create a
primary partition on the 21GB of unallocated space and
when completing the wizard get a Logical Drive Manager
error message that states the task couldn't be completed
and refers me to the event log to find the error. No
errors are listed. Can anyone help?

One suggestion:

Make up a copy of the XP install CD with SP1 "slipstreamed " onto it. Here's
one recipe for doing that:

(This is for Nero, but there's a link for using Roxio Easy CD Creator.)

I used such a disk to do a clean install onto a WD1600JD (160GB SATA) drive
a couple of days ago. I didn't need to do anything additional to get the
full capacity of the drive.

HTH.

Thanks for the info. Since I already have a fair number
of setups completed and programs installed I wouldn't
want to start over. The extra expense of Partition Magic
is something I'll probably reserve for if and when the
extra 21Gb becomes necessary. I was just hoping for a
simple solution I'm overlooking.
