here is my problem. I bought and installed a Maxtor 160GB ATA hard drive into
my computer. I used the install disk (Max Blast3, which came along w/ the
drive) to install the HD. During the installation, a message came out and
said that my pc doesn't support Hard Drive that's larger than 137GB. I went
through the installation guide and found out there is two solutions. One is
Ultra ATA/133-compatible PCI card, the other solution is to install
Microsoft SP1. I had it installed and how come it's not working? after the
installation, the hard drive is limited to 137MB, even worse, it dropped to
127GB after i formatted it. It's a totally 33 GB lost!!! I am sure my pc is
capable for 160GB HD, can anyone help me?

Not to deride, but you are beating a dead horse here. This also has
nothing to do with Mobo, CPU, or Memory. It has everything to do with
the BIOS and the OS. First, he is only going to see a max of 149 GB for
a 160 GB HD. Second, the BIOS can limit the size of the drive as well as
not have at least Service Pack 1 installed.

The real problem is probably that he installed XP without Service Pack 1
slipstreamed into the CD. This means the largest partition it can
create is 127 GB during Setup. To take advantage of the remaining part
of the drive, he can install Service Pack 1 (which he did) and then
create a partition from the unallocated space using Disk Management
(Right click on My Computer, click Manage, click Disk Management).
After he has partitioned it, he needs to format it and assign it a
letter if Windows doesn't do that automatically.
