100% cpu usage crashes my laptop

I have a toshiba satellite 2.4 ghz intel cpu and 524 gb
memory in my laptop.

A little while ago, after 6 months of stable use, when
using a long installed programme, the cpu usage would go
to 100% then crash the machine. I eventually resolved the
problem by reformatting and reinstalling.

That particular programme runs fine as before.

However, some 2 months after the reformat, I have noticed
that another, recently installed programme exhibits the
same syptoms and causes the laptop to crash.

The identical software runs on my desktop pc with about 1 -
3% cpu usage.

I have tried uninstalling etc, but it is just the same.

Help!

Andy,

Do you know what process is causing the 100% cpu usage?

Get Process Explorer (free) from
<http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml>. Provides way more
information than Task Manager about suspicious processes running on your
machine.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
