1) AOL and XP 2) Telephone Control Panel

Hi. As the subject indicates I have two situations.
1) I have AOL installed on my XP PRO SP2 machine, however, I cannot get AOL
to work. It chooses the TCP/IP connection type and it just hangs. I have to
CTL+ALT+DEL to get to the Taskmanager to end the process. I am using 2WIRE as
my broadband access and home network with a 2K PRO pc. I can access the
internet on both computers. However, I cannot access AOL on the XP pc. I can
on the 2K pc.

2) When I go into the control panel to access the modem and telephone
applet, it will not allow me. I get this message: "Phone and modem control
panel cannot be opened. You may have a problem starting telephony service."
How do I correct this?

Are #1 and #2 related?

Thanks,
George

Having AOL installed on your computer is a bad thing. Having it not work is
a good thing. AOL is *not* a real ISP and/or browser. It hihacks your
compter, replaces many sytem files with it's own proprietary versions, and
they seem to feel that they have the right to dictate where you can go on
the internet and what you can see. The single most valuable piece of advice
I can give you, and I mean this in all seriousness, is to get rid of AOL.

You have somehow disabled the telephony service.

It is possible, but it is more likely that AOL has corrupted the software
and/or drives needed to access the device. See my remarks above.
